If you recently caught us on German television—you know it’s been an incredibly wild ride. Together, we’ve made it our mission to bring authentic German sausage culture right to the heart of Taiwan.
Getting featured on ProSieben’s daily lifestyle magazine, taff, was a massive milestone for us. It’s the perfect time to pull back the curtain and share a bit more about how two German expats ended up grilling bratwursts in the middle of one of Asia’s most bustling metropolises.
The Recipe That Started It All
Before there was a Waldhaus stand in Taipei, there was just a dream in Thüringen. Back in 1964, my grandfather, Alfons Köber—a master butcher—perfected a signature bratwurst recipe. He always had a vision of taking his craft beyond Germany’s borders. Decades later, Kevin and I decided it was time to finally make Grandpa Alfons’ dream a reality.
We didn’t want to compromise on the taste or the tradition. We use only high-quality meat and natural seasonings—no shortcuts. We brought that exact family legacy recipe with us to Taiwan to share a true taste of home. Find out more about us click: here
Standing Out at the Raohe Night Market
Taiwan is world-famous for its incredible street food culture, but local Taiwanese sausages are traditionally sweet. We knew that introducing a savory, classic Thüringer Bratwurst into that mix would be a bold move.
We set up shop at the vibrant Raohe Night Market, and the response has been amazing. Here is what we focus on every single night:
- Authenticity First: Bringing a genuine piece of German culinary heritage to a place that deeply appreciates food craftsmanship.
- Cultural Crossover: It’s a blast seeing locals try a savory Thüringer Bratwurst for the first time, while also giving fellow expats a nostalgic taste of home.
- Community Hustle: The energy of the night market is unmatched, and we love connecting with everyone right at the grill.

Lights, Camera, taff!
Having the taff crew document our journey was a completely surreal experience. ProSieben has a knack for telling the stories of Auswanderer (emigrants) who take a leap of faith to build something completely out of the box abroad.
Showing the camera crew around Taipei, letting them experience the chaotic, beautiful energy of the night market, and sharing the raw, daily hustle of a food startup was exhausting but exhilarating. It validated all the late nights, the logistical hurdles, and the wild adventure of starting a business 9,000 kilometers from home.
